I unfortunately admitt that i'm in agreement with DarkTimes on this.
I was looking forward to S2 license in order to get rid of demo standards but my attempts at CTRA1 server are ot very encouraging. I must say I am a noob at S1 tracks so I start towards the end of the grid and usually brake (too) early at the corners. I also have unadapted sets. My main goal is to have fun and race as cleanly as possible to learn the tracks properly, but that is hard. Usual scenario:
Start around last
T1 massive wreck --> I'm in the first half of the race!
T2 I get caught up by the unfortunate and fast from T1 and wrecked...

Second thing I notice, during the first lap when I see yellow flag I lift and watch out, because it means trouble. So true! This is precisely when I get rammed by a car going full throttle into the mess ahead, "if I make it I pass 8 cars, if not I'll try next race".

So overall I'm a little bit disappointed with the driving standards of CTRA1 / lower end of the grid, although I am not sure of my driving standard.

I'll come back anyways.
Many thanks to CTRA dev team.

I rear-ended another car this morning.
I tell you, I knew right then and there that it was going to be a REALLY bad day!
The driver got out of the other car, and wouldn't you know it...
He was a DWARF!!
He looked up at me and said "I am NOT Happy!"
So I said, "Well, then, which one ARE you?"
And that's how the fight started.

Thanks, that made my Monday morning at work!

And also consider the rear tyres used in this set are Hybrid - that is even further from RL and weird but may justify the higher camber values for deflection.
Unfortunately this strange set works much better, when I first used this kind of set I immediatly knocked 1 sec off my laptimes in BL compared to the "realistic" set I created after long trials.

I'd rather see x axis for steering, y axis for throttle and brake assigned to a button - having tried the combined y axis for throttle / brake I can not consistantly brake in a straight line (or in the adequate direction). This would also solve the left fott braking issue.
But it does not seem possible to implement. Carry on tapping!

Despite adversity (wife, kids, laptop + mouse, work, age...) I got S2 today (had to shamefully sneak the payment around my wife, reminds me of my teenage guilt).
I've been playing a good deal of demo and think the devs deserve this money already.
I like this guide but would like more advice: what is feasible with a mouse? I expect it would be near impossible to drive GTR or single seaters with that awkward controller.
Apparently I gather from the forums that the thing "button control rate" could help me, what are the ranges for the different car types?
I use 6 for xfg, xrg and 5.5 for xrt to keep it smoother, I wonder how other mousers set that for faster cars.
I see absolutely no chance to get my hands on a wheel, it is much more difficult to smuggle than a virtual license

Greetings from far back on the grid
Thank you

Argh... I've been wasting 5 minutes during which I should have been working hard reading through this pointless thread. How can this nonsense be related to improvement?
Where is there a suggestion in it?

Now I wasted 2 more minutes posting there back to work

No in favor of bumping this thread, but as Kev did it himself

I am by no means expert but it seems to me that the thread

"Help Kev Get a World Record! (hahahaha)"

(no idea how to link to it though, maybe Kev you can provide the link) deserves at least attention for any beginner in search of documentation for improving laptimes.

I share your "point" of view.
When you race it is for the sake of it, a win is a bonus but nowhere as rewarding as a good fight. When racing conditions change you get more randomness in the sim and that should in theory make it more a sim than a game, therefore you will have to (re)act more and repeat less.

Not much wind on demo servers... I have to get a license and try CTRA it seems.

OK 34 here, but the wife thinks I look 14 when playing LFS.
Unfortunately she teaches to 14 years old.
This is why I will have to sneak the payment around her if I want S2 any sooner than the next decade and peace at home at the same time... considering using moneybookers, looks the best way as far as I figure out how to issue a payment to my bank unnoticed.
Shame...

No
Same as above for realism, and time consuming new feature.

Interesting debate...
Let's try reason there, removing human rights / philosophical / religious concerns from our minds because they attract passion.
OK in favour of death penalty we have less direct cost - no prison fees for dead people.
But I see flaws there
death sentence take a long time to come to application in Texas, for economical benefit execution should happen right after the sentence. Better understood in China!
Now for indirect costs: What is the cost associated to psychological support provided to the Jury / court / execution crew... who all participated in a murder? Ok we will do a study and then decide if death penalty is financially worthwhile.

Side thought: Old guy with cancer. lots of money to keep him alive for a few month - does the collectivity pay for that? If not how is it comparable to death penalty?
Bring reasonnig further: Older ones, sick ones cost more than they will bring. So we should stop supporting them? Or go one more step further and sentence them to death as they waste collectivity's money?

This may be why us civilised humans came up with values, concepts and ideas to raise a little bit above middle ages. However it seems we easily suffer from amnesia when sufficiently told horror stories of insane murders, orange belt with green ribbons terrorism threat levels and the likes. Maybe we are still in middle ages or getting back there, let's burn a few witches!

Best regards

I agree with Dalarna - content provided for demo is already too much.

However the average behaviour found on demo servers compensates the generosity of the devs, so the incentive to get a full license should be strong enough for those who want to race and keep wreckers in demo.
The only question left, though, is how this forum can show us demo users that S2 is fair and close racing, good competition and no hacking / swearing / wrecking deliberately or stupidly.

So no to more demo, we have more than enough as I see it because BL1rev is seldom used for races.

I will buy a license - someday...

These are entertaining arguments in "proper English", reading this thread makes a good start for a long day at work...
Thanks for the show!

I personnally found out only recently how to use the F12 pitting instructions, I did not find that so obvious as to deserve a public spanking.

And please don't let all these 8 years old online again... always seems to happen when I try my limited skills on a demo server
Thanks

Been playing for too long considering I'm still demo user - first download was version Q I think. I Played only offline with some AI (not often, less than 1/2 hour per week) and started online when I received a decent laptop, that was during the W-30ish test patches I think.
During race I can do approx 1.35 consistantly with XFG and 1.36 with XRG - XRT 1.26, usually enough to stay in the 1st half of the pack.
I play a bit more now, this leading to the wife issues and went though your setup guides and the forum helped a lot, thanks.

So I will probably carry on tapping mouse buttons for a while . RWD are more interesting and rewarding to drive but I like closer races with XFG (until the usual crasher pops up to even chances)

Hi all,
new here on this forum and furthermore demo - maybe taking chances now...
I enjoy this game, demo content is way too much to be free and I should pay for S2 only to thanks the devs for the good time I already had.
Money is not an issue but only credit card available back home is my wife's and the negociations have started poorly at the best, maybe a few more months / years / decades will be necessary.

On topic now
I am limited in this game by a few things and would appreciate assistance:
I play on company laptop (home=mac) good enough for 40+fps is all demo situations so that should work.
I have no space to accomodate a wheel and it would be years before I can do that, plus I would not be able to use it for noise / kids / wife issues. So I use the mouse to steer.
I used keyboard for throttle / brake and clutch / gears, but throttle control is poor - feasible for GTI but no reliable enough for the 2 other RWDs.
I tried mouse Y axis for throttle / brake and I can not get used to it.
I would like to have steer and throttle on mouse axis X and Y, brake on mouse button. I tried separate axis (attached pic) but then I have no brake anymore. This leads to typical demo driving situations
Is there a way to have throttle on mouse axis Y and brake on a mouse button?
How is the handbrake working? I could tie hanbrake to a mouse button if it works like the brake for a (frustratingly unrealistic) quick fix.

So this issue is the only reason why I register on this forum now, although I enjoy reading it (at work...) frequent demo bashing makes me reluctant to venture on Jakg and the likes ground (although I love reading Jakg's posts).

Sorry for the long post and thanks to dev team for the game and to the community for making it live.
